General consensus would be that nobody likes commercials. Kinda true, but when a commercial is done right it does two things: Sell you a product, and Entertain you. Case in point, take Volvo Trucks who have been on a creative roll this year most recently with Jean Claude Van Damme most epic split between two moving Volvo trucks!
Retailer to suburban hipsters everywhere, Urban Outfitters just leased the former site of Waterloo Gardens in Devon, Pennsylvania. What are they doing there? Well, they plan to build Devon Yard. A soon to be town center for the town of Devon, and the ultimate “lifestyle” experience.
Many of the in-house brands such as Anthropologie will be hosted by the space, and the town will also have mid-level and fine dining restaurants, a five story boutique called The Devon Inn, and a terrain garden center. If all goes as planned we will be seeing the Devon Yard in 2016.
iWatch, uWatch, we’re all watching. After hiring cable exec Jean-Francois Mulé joins Apple from CableLabs, it is readily apparent that AppleTV is not the only front that Apple is looking to blow wide open in the tech sector. Another recent hire, Ben Shaffer was most recently the Studio Director of Nike’s Innovation Kitchen which brought you products like the Flyknit and depending on you you ask, may or may not have worked on the Fuelband. One thing is for sure, this maybe Apple’s most logical next step or two if they want to come up with and really move the needle when it comes to “wearable technology.”
Here’s is Ben on his role within the design lab while he was at Nike.
Being from NYC when Fall/Winter hits you got to have that in between sneaker to walk around in to keep your toes from freezing. For me it was the Uptown’s, aka the Air Force 1’s. Luckily the team over at Nike Sportswear put their heads together and came up with the “SneakerBoot,” updating classics silhouette’s and recent designs into winterized versions of the sneaker. The collection includes the Air Force 1, Airmax 90, Free Run+ 2, Lunar LDV Trail, and the Roshe Run’s. The “SneakerBoot’s” are set to land in stores this month.

If you live in New York City you’ve definitely heard all the fuss about these new Citi bikes. Whether it be the bikes are too heavy, too slow, or too ugly the dudes over at Animal Bikes and their team-rider Tyrone Williams wanted to shut the haters up and drop this video of Tyrone killing the streets in one. Love them, or hate them the video is sure to bring a smirk to your facial as Tyrone pops wheelies and bunny hops all over NYC.
Motor Trend recently held the third edition of the World’s Greatest Drag Race for its Best Driver’s car competition. The quarter-mile race featured 12 cars that are new or recently updated and are for sale in the U.S. The cars are worth about $1.9 million collectively and they certainly didn’t disappoint out on the track.
With an Apple iPhone 5S drop weeks away, we recently scourged the web in search of iPhone concepts that didn’t go completely off the reservation from a product and interface design standpoint. Our only other criteria was that the concept had to be well thought out and well executed. We wanted to feel like come 2014, this is the phone that we could potentially get.
From Krakow to Paris, London to New York , Mexico City to Puerto Rico, the democratization of polo is in full swing.
