1983: AN OLD SCHOOL LOOK AT THE ORIGINAL APPLE TABLET

The year was 1983. Al Pacino had moviegoers riveted as Tony Montana in "Scarface. And Michael Jackson had the music charts on lock down with "Billie Jean" and" Beat It."

Meanwhile, out west,  a small technology company out of California by the name of Apple was developing "The Bashful," a tablet like computer to go along with its "Lisa" and "Apple III+" computer.

Now, why is this important you ask? Fast forward  27 years. In a few days, Apple with its $212 a share price will be announcing its 2010 version of the tablet computer that may or may not look something like this:
Apple_tablet_rumor
Now, this post is not about the 2010 version as much as it's about 1983 version. A) its way more interesting and B) It always fascinates us how far ahead of the curve Steve Jobs has always been. With monster hits like the iPod, iPhone, iTunes and Apps store, will this device prove to be another homerun for Apple and bring salvation to the print industry (newspapers and magazines) like iTunes and the iPod did for the music business? Or will it be yet another "Bashful?"

Only time will tell...in the meantime, here's the main reason for this post - 1983 flicks of "The Bashful" for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!!!

GOURMET x PEPSI SNEAKER COLLABO

This is one of the illest, Underground Brand x Fortune 500 collabo's that we've seen in a long time. Its rare when a brand like Pepsi allows a small company to remix their logo in a completely different product category and vice-versa. Props to both for taking the creative leap...Gourmet Gourmet_2 [ via: www.highsnobiety.com ]

MADONNA x D&G x STEVEN KLEIN

Check out this preview we just came across in the current issue of Vanity Fair Italia for Dolce & Gabbana's Spring '10 campaign featuring Madonna. We love that photographer Steven Klein went retro by taking inspiration from the Italian Neorealism era of cinema. Here are some of the flicks: DG_ss10_foto_A_1600x1200

HERMES "WHY" YACHT

Check out Hermes traveling oceanfront estate. A collaboration between Hermes and Wally Yachts thus the acronym WHY. From a design standpoint, the concept is without a doubt sick! The only question we have is "does this make sense in the current economic climate?" For more info visit:www.why-yachts.com

09.12.09 - 09.13.09 | FASHIONCAMP @ NYU

Fc Fashion is all about change, but fashion is changing faster than ever before. How is this going to affect the way we dress, style, and live?

Fashion Camp is a two-day open conference in NYC on September 12th and 13th, 2009, bringing together the mainstream fashion community, the indie fashion community, and the next wave of wearable technologists and tech gurus, to explore this question through workshops, presentations, and collaboration. Come learn about everything from how the fashion industry works to the real lives of designers to what its really like to start a label. Learn how to use social media in fashion, how wearable technology will shape the runway of tomorrow, and more!

FashionCampNY is planned as a “Barcamp” or “unconference,” which means its a free, participant-driven conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. Discussions, demos and open participatory workshops are attended—and run!—by the participants. The event doesn’t cost any money, but there is a price: all attendees must give a demo, a session, or help with one. Visit              www.ideas.fashioncamp.org to suggest a session, see what others are presenting on, or get inspired to present something yourself!
