ESOSA FALL 2012 PREVIEW

In conjunction with this season's New York City Fashion Week, República was recently invited to preview the debut line of Dominican-born, American designer, Emilio Sosa. The collection was presented at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The Ford-sponsored event brought out the city's brightest and best-dressed for a night full of color and soulful House music--two things that Emilio boasts, truly inspired the unique line titled: Urban Geisha.

The result is a stunning collection that's based on classic American sportswear silhouettes, Japanese aesthetic and vibrant hues of blue and red.

THE SOCIAL BOWL

The social media experts over at Soshable are expecting tons of Twitter and Facebook use during the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI. So much that they actually wrote up a piece about how connection providers like Verizon are lacing Lucas Oil Field with an extra-heavy arsenal to support 3G, 4G, and WiFi. And then there's all the social media blasts and analytics that are going to be handled by digital marketing companies like Raidious--a great case study on what will most certainly be one of the most data-heavy events of the year. Hence the name, The Social Bowl.

POLICE BRUTALITY AT OCCUPY WALL STREET

The recent Occupy Wall Street protest in New York City is garnering national/international outrage, and not necessarily just because of the nature of the demonstration. Instead, the spotlight is being placed on NYPD officers for their aggressive and downright abusive response to peaceful protestors. The following is an MSNBC report from Lawrence O'Donnell (The Last Word) that focuses on some very candid examples of the excessive force caught on camera. Some truly disturbing images that raise a lot of questions...

NIKE'S T90 PERFECT STRIKE

In conjunction with the upcoming release of the t90 Laser IV, sportswear giant, Nike, invited a select group of journalists, bloggers, and soccer heads to their New York City headquarters for The Perfect Strike. The curated event brought out the shoe's creator, Doug Wilken, along with fellow Nike equipment designer, Todd Smith. Together the two delivered really intriguing presentations about the science and wizardry behind the highly-anticipated 4th installment of the t90 soccer boot and a special version of the Seitiro Soccer Ball (together create "The Perfect Strike"). Fans can expect an official release of the t90 Laser IV on October 1st, 2011. But until then, just rest assured that Nike pulled out plenty of stops for this one. We were lectured on the actual science that proves it!
