Damn, talk about a Christmas Grinch! Watch the following video that captures a UPS employee stealing what a previous FedEx employee left on a customer’s porch. Apparently it was an iPad Mini gift. Don’t think that guy’s going to be delivering any more packages in 2013.
Our soul sister Chuch hits us one mo’ ‘gain with another album review. This time she took a little time off from traveling the astral plane to meditate on one of the year’s most anticipated HipHop albums, Kendrick Lamar’s: good kid, m.A.A.d city. Peep game…
This little guy’s got the right idea. Yes it’s a viral photo and yes it’s probably got no validity in say The New York Times / Huffington Post world of journalistic arguments and intellectual rhetoric, but screw that! We know good stuff when we see it and this Panda is it. Black, white, spread love. End racist thoughts!
Product manager, feminist and advertising expert Teresa Valdez Klein knows a thing or two about the tactics online marketers use on unsuspecting Facebook users. As you would have it, the social media platform, in all its glory, is really just a tool that allows the marketing world to pinpoint exact demographics. So the question then becomes: What happens when this “subvertising” gets downright offensive and touchy for the user? Like when Teresa updated her online profile from married to single. The results were staggering! She points out how the marketers (automated or not) immediately flooded her with ads pertaining to weight loss, dating services, etc., all forcing her to believe that she was wrong and stigmatized for her reality. Thankfully Teresa was aware of the tactic and decided to take matters into her own hands. She purchased lowcost ads and advertised to her own female demographic about how their bodies were okay and life wasn’t terrible. Go Teresa! Way to reverse the careless (and psychotic) advertising that really messes with our happiness.
So our homie and resident hippie, Chuch, who just happens to spend her spare time travelling the states (what a flower child) has taken a break from smelling flowers and trying on gypsy rings in order to review Frank Ocean’s freshman release: Channel Orange. Despite the recent controversy surrounding his coming out of the proverbial sexuality “closet” Chuch offers her innate, passionate thoughts on the albumwhat we love her best for!
Photographer Frieke Janssens looks to shock and critique with his latest series titled Smoking Kids. The creative captures images of adultlike children going through the motions of smoke intake, be it a prideful cigar or lowly cigarette. The juxtaposition of sullen children (as opposed to joyful ones) with the habit makes for some interesting debate, certainly the goal of Janssens work in the first place.
We’re baffled by this one, but apparently the biggest tech company in the world, Apple, delved into the realm of fashion once. According to HUH Magazine back in 1986 the makers of the presentday MacBook and iPhone were making 80’sinspired sportscasual apparel. And what exactly did it look like? See for yourself! *Covers eyes with hands*
Those of us seeking further proof that the addage “age is nothing but a number” holds true need to look no further as the Guinness World Records for eldest female yogi and body builder have been set by a pair of dashing senior citizensfirst, an Edith Wilma Connor, 77yearold bodybuilder, and then, Tao PorchonLynch, 94yearold yoga instructer. The two ladies credit their good health to sheer drive, motivation, and passion for what they do. Incredible. And to think that some of us moan and ache before we’re 40!
Much has been said about Grammy Awardwinnning musician, Lauryn Hill, a large sum of it focusing on her controversial exit from the public eye after the criticallyacclaimed Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. Today she’s under scrutiny yet again, this time it concerns supposed federal tax evasion charges. Thankfully the artist/freedom fighter isn’t keeping quiet about the situation and has turned to her Tumblr page to release a public statement addressing what she dubs an intentional smear campaign and agenda to systematically destroy her and her art:
