HOME BILLBOARD

Marketing company, Braniacs From Mars, is offering home owners monthly stipends of $2000 USD for painting over your house and turning it into a billboard. Though we can't really comprehend why anyone would want to do this, we're not ruling out the necessity for extra household income, especially during this volatile job market with foreclosures running rampant. Interested home owners can submit a home billboard application here. Not a bad way to handle that pesky mortgage!

PORN IS GOING .XXX

Perhaps some of you may know this by now, but online pornography is slated for a domain change. The new end address will be .XXX as opposed to the normal "dot com." After much debate, cases for and against the change do agree on one thing, the new extension will make it easier to identify and, when needed, filter adult content. Then there's the whole matter of informing folks about the change. Enter ad agency, M&C Saatchi, with their creative rendition of a "Porn Is Moving To .XXX" campaign. Cheeky and a wee bit controversial, to say the least!

FAST FOOD LIES

Not that we're fans of fast food anyway, but here's an interesting series that highlights the misleading advertised "look" of some items. Aside from being terrible for one's health, it's clear that these "popular" chains highlight their best "face" on print and media, while the actual food tells quite the different story. Double fail!

CONVERSE'S EMERGENCY CAMPAIGN

Converse UK recently carried out a rather interesting campaign to promote their line of footwear to fans. The company placed I.C.E (In Case Of Emergency) boxes in public spaces so that passerbys could help themselves to a pair or tweet the message inside empty containers for an opportunity to win others.

SAFE SEX APP

Swedish ad agency, Ester, was recently hired to create a safe sex campaign for young adults in Stockholm. 500,000 condoms embedded with QR codes and a safe sex app later, and the Kondom08 Campaign was born. Here's how it works: Partners scan the QR code, which installs an app onto their smart phones. When initiated (right before sex), the app reminds users to put on their condom and then the phone records the session (sound and movement). Users can then create their own profile based on their stats and compare them with with other safe sex practitioners. Fun!

SAY WORD! | ARE KIDS EATING DESSERT FOR BREAKFAST?

Sugar_bombs
Being one to LOVE our cereal followed by our cereal milk, we kind of knew it, but this report by the Enviornmental Working Group solidifies the fact that most children's cereal contains a lot of sugar!

It's not until it's contextualized with hightlight such as:
"One serving of Honey Smacks has more sugar than a Twinkie." Cereal_twinkies

and...

"One cup of any of 44 children’s cereals – including Honey Nut Cheerios, Apple Jacks, and Cap’n Crunch – contains more sugar than 3 Chips Ahoy! cookies." Cereal_chips_ahoy

That one begins to realize the ramification of what this all means especially with childhood obesity rates tripling in the past thirty years and recent research findings that suggest that products sweetened with sugar or high-fructose corn syrup food can be as addictive as cocaine or nicotine.

Eat and feed responsibly.

$2 SUBWAY SANDWICH

American sandwich franchise, Subway, is siding with cash-strapped customers this holiday season, as it plans to sell its Meatball Marinara and Cold Cut Combo subs for $2 ($4 footlong). While the "value meal" concept isn't anything new for them or competing food chains like KFC and Taco Bell, the company's plan is to convince consumers that they're getting more bang (and calories) for their buck, noting that a $2 meatball sub of 480 calories breaks down to 1$ per 240 calories worth of sandwich.

J.LO'S GRAFFITI BUST

Bronx native and internationally-revered songstress/actress, Jennifer Lopez, is under major scrutiny for a recent Fiat commercial that she appears in. First, the ad was criticized when it was discovered that J. Lo's parts were actually shot in Los Angeles and not the New York City streets that the producers would actually have you believe (Brooklyn Bridge and the elevated 6 Train). Now, the ad is under more fire as a copyrighted graffiti mural (I Heart The Bronx) by the infamous Tats Cru was used without permission. Ms. Lopez and Co. can definitely expect a call from their lawyer. Yikes!
