DECONSTRUCTING JOY DIVISION’S FIRST ALBUM COVER
If you're an avid music fan like us or even a frequent purveyor of Rock 'n'' Roll in pop culture, then chances are that you've come across Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" album art. The cryptic freshman cover was designed by Peter Seville and has since its inception become one of the most ubiquitous pieces of modern design culture. The following is an interview with the father himself explaining how the design is actually an astronomy diagram from an encyclopedia. Actually, now that we think about it, the details about its pulsar and intergalactic origins seem to really coincide with the strange and tragic allure of Joy Division's music and story. Go figure!
