Spanish surf company, Pukas, teamed up with researchers at Tecnalia to create a brand-new way of documenting wave riding! The SurfSens is the world's first "smart" surfboard–it records riding data while in action. How? Well, it's equipped with a pressure sensor, flex sensor, compass and accelerometers that all send information to a computer and an open source system that generate it into different forms, including a 3D animation of the board's movement. The SurfSens team hopes that this technology will one day be used to more accurately document (judge) surf technique in competitions and personal use.
