RESEARCH IN MOTION ANNOUNCES NEW WIFI ENABLED 8820 BLACKBERRY
Technology is truly moving at the speed of light! No sooner than Apple sells over half a million iPhone’s out of the box, now comes word that Blackberry is dropping a WIFI version of it’s popular 8800 series later this summer.
The new Blackberry 8820 due out this summer via AT&T (pricing TBD) will be RIM’s thinnest smartphone and will be the first dual-mode BlackBerry handset, combining EDGE/GPRS/GSM cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity (sans 3G) which will support the 802.11a/b/g standards and will comply with Wi-Fi security protocols, including WEP and WPA.
The phone will also include UMA (which allows the phone to switch seamlessly between cellular and WiFi networks without dropping calls), built-in GPS, Wi-Fi support, BlackBerry Maps, a multi-media player, voice dialling, trackball navigation, email, text messaging (SMS and MMS), instant messaging, organizer, web browser and advanced phone features including Bluetooth 2.0, and an expansion slot that will accept both microSD and microSDHC memory cards up to 32GB’s.
