SEX SELLS | POIGNANT NEW YORK MAGAZINE PIECE ABOUT A 13-YEAR-OLD PROSTITUTE
By Led Black
New York magazine has an excellent, must-read article about a young Latina, half-Puerto Rican – half-Dominican, who was forced into a life of prostitution at the tender age of 13. It is the all too real and tragic story of a young girl who has had a terrible childhood with no love, guidance or support. The piece revolves around Lucilia who spent some of her early years in foster care and would eventually be molested by an uncle when she was 10 and raped by her older half-brother before she turned 13. She is preyed upon by almost everyone that she comes into contact with and that includes the Justice system which treated her as a criminal and not a mere child that was forcefully coerced into a horrible existence as a prostitute.
