SAY WORD! | THE LATEST IN RESTAURANT DESIGN INCLUDES FINE DINING ON A THRONE

Word on the street is that in the Matosinhos section of Portugal there is a hot, new, hip restaurant called W'Duck. What's interesting, is that incorporated into the restaurants overall lounge like design, the seating throughout this boite are actual toilets. We wonder how easy it is to move these bad boy's when trying to be a gentleman on a date?

NEWS CORP. LAUNCHES MYSPACE EN ESPAÑOL FOR THE SPANISH SPEAKING SET

Mi_espacio Another corporation is trying to get hip to the Spanish speaking demographic and its purchasing power. News Corp., Myspace’s parent company has launched several different variations of Myspace for the bi-lingual set.

Now, there’s MySpace at latino.myspace.com for the 28 million Spanish speaking folks currently residing in the U.S. MySpace has also launched la.myspace.com, a pan-regional site for Latin American Spanish speakers.

It’s worth noting to users, that signing up and using these different Spanish targeted Myspace sites does not prohibit you from becoming friends with users of the English dominant or the other localized Myspace sites in the UK, Japan, France, Germany, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Canada, New Zealand or Mexico.

Anyone can be friends with anyone in MySpace, even if they use different MySpace sites and speak completely different languages.

SAY WORD! | TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL BEGINS APRIL 25TH

Tff_2 By Led Black

That’s right movie buffs, it’s that time of year again - the Tribeca Film Festival will be back in effect from April 25th until May 6th.  Here’s my extremely short list of some movies that I definitely want to catch.  So many movies, so little time.

LOVESICKNESS (MALDEAMORES)
– Set in Puerto Rico, Lovesickness is essentially about the triumph of passion over reason.  Artfully executed, this somewhat melancholy comedy follows the trysts, love triangles and affairs of it’s eternally lust struck characters.  This is one movie I definitely want to catch; besides the fact that it is a Puerto Rican film directed by Carlitos Ruiz Ruiz, one of my favorite Latino actors Luis Guzmán is in it.

ATTICA
– This Cinda Firestone directed documentary deals with the infamous Attica prison uprising that took place in 1971.  This investigative doc delves into the institutionalized injustices and abuses of power that led to that fateful event.  This is definitely not a date movie.

THE AIR I BREATHE
– Coming on the heels of his breakthrough role as Ugandan despot Idi Amin, Forest Whitaker returns in this flick that is based on a Chinese proverb about the four emotional cornerstones of life; happiness, pleasure sorrow and love.  The all-star cast includes Brendan Frasier, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Andy Garcia and is directed by Jieho Lee.

THE BALLAD OF ESEQUIEL HERNANDEZ – This documentary is narrated by none other than Tommy Lee Jones and is an exhaustive look at the murder of 18-year-old American citizen Esequil Hernandez by a Marine team in Texas over 10 years ago.  This documentary also looks at the increasing militarization of the border and larger immigration issues.

DESCENT – This Talia Lugacy directed flick stars Rosario Dawson as a rape victim on a downward spiral of drugs, despair and defeat.  She is given the chance to avenge her victimization when she comes across her attacker.  Descent is the first feature film of Trybe Films, which was formed by Talia Lugacy with partners Brian Priest and Rosario Dawson.

BOMB IT
– Bomb It traces the history of contemporary graffiti from ancient rock paintings through such artists as Picasso to it becoming one of the pillars of the Hip-Hop movement in NYC.  Written and directed by Jon Reiss, Bomb It takes the viewer on a journey across 5 continents using footage of graffiti artists doing their thing.  This movie might make me want to get back in the game and start bombing again – watch out all you toys.

LIVE – A dark satire about America’s addiction to Reality TV, Live is a gripping film about a network executive played by the beautiful Eva Mendes who wants to produce a reality show version of Russian roulette using a loaded gun on live television.  The movie is filmed as a documentary that follows the behind-the-scenes drama associated with airing the controversial show.

TAKE THE BRIDGE
– Four young strangers meet in the hospital after unsuccessfully attempting suicide on the same day.  This movie takes place in Washington Heights and celebrates the energy and vitality of the Dominican community.  While the premise is immensely interesting, to be honest, I would go to see this movie regardless of subject matter just because the story is set in my beloved Quisqueya Heights.

THE MAN OF TWO HAVANAS
– This is probably the documentary that I am most interested in seeing.  The director of the doc, Vivien Lesnik Weisman, tells the story of her father who was in the unenviable position of being pro-Castro and living in Miami amid all the anti-Castro Cuban-Americans.  This film convincingly tells the story of the reign of terror that these C.I.A. trained Cuban-Americans unleashed on anyone and everyone that didn’t think follow their line.
