FRI. | 05 11 07 | MULTICULTURAL MUSIC ENCOUNTERS: TWO GENERATIONS FEAT. THE MUSIC OF OLU DARA
Two Generations is an intergenerational music experience featuring the music of the multi-talented veteran, Mr. Olu Dara played by Bob Stewart Craig Harris, Bruce Purse & the Multicultural Music Orchestra. Olu Dara’s and Bruce Purse’s music will be discussed in a panel session that will include producers, arrangers, composers and performers within the African-American Jazz musical style. This aspect will give the audience an opportunity to appreciate the similarities and differences between music creation, production and performance in Jazz and African-American music.
The presentation will take place on May 11th at 7:00 pm at the Aronow Theater in City College of NY (135th Street & Convent Avenue) and will support MMG’s mission of music education.
“Two Generations” will benefit MMG’s educational programs headed by Executive Director, Dr. Luis Mojica. In its 10 years, MMG has become an institution that provides music education in many of NYC’s public schools, preparing students for a musical education and for admission into prestigious music programs. MMG’s students have been able to advance not only their musical skills but their academic performance, as well. MMG has served over 5000 students, tutored 400 for admission to specialized music schools and prepared hundreds for professional music careers.
