ETHNIC CLEANSING IN LA | LATINO GANG MEMBERS TARGET BLACK RESIDENTS OF MULTI-RACIAL NEIGHBORHOOD
By Led Black
What is happening to our world? Ethnic Cleansing is not a term usually associated with 21st century America. One thinks of places like Rwanda, Palestine, Bosnia or any of the many third world hot spots where the competition for limited resources or outright power turns deadly. The LA Times is using the term, ethnic cleansing, to describe the tactics that some Los Angeles Latino gangs are using against African-American residents of multi-racial neighborhoods. While the ongoing turf wars between Black and Latino gangs have been going on for years, the actual targeting of innocent non-gang members by the Latino gangs is a troubling development that led to the slaying of a 14-year-old female African-American student last month. Community groups are working to mend the long-standing rifts between Blacks and Latinos in Los Angeles to avoid further bloodshed. An ineffective educational system, lack of employment opportunities and an evermore powerful and corrosive Gang culture have combined to bring this community to the abyss. Sadly as the world that we know changes for the worse, occurrences of this nature might become commonplace. What are your thoughts on this?
