THE HISTORY OF TOBACCO ON THE HISTORY CHANNEL TONIGHT AT 10PM
By Led Black
When Columbus made his supposed “discovery” of America, he noticed that the peace loving Tainos considered the Tobacco plant to be sacred. One of his crew, Rodrigo de Jerez, became the first recorded smoker outside of the Americas. His exhaling of the smoke so spooked his countrymen in Spain, that he was rounded up and put in prison for seven years by the Spanish Inquisition. The History Channel’s very popular series, Modern Marvels, is tackling the history of tobacco and will visit the Fuente plantation in the DR, which produces some of the best cigars in the world. Smoke ’em if you got ’em!!!
