COLOR OF THE CROSS | FILM DEPICTING JESUS AS BLACK MAN OPENS TODAY

Color_of_the_cross By Led Black

As a child I remember my grandmother having this really scary holographic picture of Jesus, it would scare the living daylights out of me.  Images of Christ as a White man were quite common growing up.  I didn’t begin to question the accuracy of Jesus as a European until I reached high school and immersed myself in history.  Even though the historical record as well as the Bible confirms that Jesus was a person of color, the notion of Jesus as a White person still persists.  That was one of my main gripes with The Passion of the Christ besides all the unnecessary, gratuitous violence.  Finally, a movie has been made to correct this long held fallacy.  The Color of the Cross tackles the thorny issue of the color of Christ.  The premise of the film is the last 48 hours of the life of Christ before his capture at Mount Gethsemane.  This controversial film debuts on October 27th in select markets across the country.
