BLACK STYLE NOW – FROM THE BLOCK TO THE RUNWAY TO THE MUSEUM
By Led Black
The Museum of the City of New York will unveil its latest offering “Black Style Now” on September 9th. This ambitious exhibition attempts to chronicle the energy, vibrancy and cross-over appeal of Black style from the 1920’s to the present. The exhibit’s curators Michael Henry Adams and Michael McCollom juxtapose Hip-Hop inspired designs with couture created by ground-breaking Black fashion designers such as Stephen Burrows, Wili Smith and Anne Lowe. This first of its kind presentation is enhanced by photos of Black Fashions icons from the past and the present; from Cab Calloway to Beyonce, Pharell and Kanye West.
