PROTECT YOURSELF FROM IDENTITY THEFT BY REMOVING YOUR PERSONAL DATA FROM ZABASEARCH.COM & INTELIUS.COM
There’s a new database available to the general public, free of charge that displays your personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates). The database can be found at www.zabasearch.com. Type in your name and check…you’ll be as amazed at what you find. Your info is being provided to Zaba Search by www.intelius.com.
E-mail this information to family and friends, post on other blogs etc. Check to see if your name and information is in their databases. If so, and you want it removed, you’ll need to write them a letter to request its removal.
To be removed from Zaba Search
Provide your full name and middle initial, year of birth, email, phone number, addresses involved and the date with your signature signature. Specify that you want your info deleted. Write them at:
2828 Cockran Street, #397
Simi Villey, CA 93065
To be removed from Intelius
In order for Intelius to ‘opt out’ your public information from being viewable on the Intelius website they require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver’s license. If you are faxing a copy of your driver’s license, cross out the photo and the driver’s license number. They only need to see the name, address and date of birth.
Please fax information to their customer service department at 425-974-6194.
If you are not comfortable doing this you can send them a notarized form proving your identity and they will remove this public information from their site.
** Please note removing the data here does not prevent public records from sending them new information in the future. To permanently have your records sealed you will need to contact your county’s record department.
After opting out, make sure to check back to make certain your information has been removed. If it has not been removed then file a complaint with your State’s Attorney General.
Additional tips to protecting yourself from identity theft
1) Visit the DMA Consumer Assitance website to have yourself removed from e-mail, mailing and telemarketing lists…www.dmaconsumers.org
2) Secure your mail. A P.O. box is a great way to protect your address so that criminals don’t have a chance to snatch credit card pitches addressed to you.
3. Don’t give out your home telephone number to car rental places, credit card companies or any marketing companies. Your name and address are a commodity that’s bought and sold by most companies.
