RosieRosie2_1 IFC premieres the Rosie Perez directed “Yo Soy Boricua, Pa’que Tu Lo Sepas!” tonight at 9:00 PM.  This documentary is an in-depth, historical look into the trials, tribulations, joys and sheer determination of Puerto Rican people. Yo Soy Boricua is narrated by the talented Jimmy Smits and attempts to answers the question posed by Rosie Perez, “why are Puerto Ricans so damn proud?”  This well-made, inspirational documentary does not shy away from tough issues and explores everything from forced sterilization of Puerto Rican woman to the Young Lords.  By the way, the cool artwork you see above is provided courtesy of the world famous Lee Quinones.  What better way to cap off the Puerto Rican parade weekend than with this stellar production celebrating Boricuas.

When I went to see the documetary at the Tribeca Film Festival (By the way it’s excellent and Rosie & her cousin Sixto are extra funny!) they mentioned it coming out on DVD at some point although we did not get a definitive date. I would call the IFC Store 800 number to see if they can give you some further info: 800-869-4942.

    Suerte!
