MEDIA EDUCATOR’S WANTED

Logo_recyouthNYC youth (ages 6 -19) participating in the RECYouth (Reel Education & Communication for Youth) program learn the skills necessary to become digital storytellers, musicians and filmmakers. RECYouth offers city-wide, year-round programming in which students are trained in digital video and audio production through hands-on, pre-employment technology and arts instruction. The RECYouth curriculum is centered on cultivating a strong technical vocabulary and providing an outlet for creative expression. Students are encouraged to collaborate through team-building activities and the sharing of responsibilities, ensuring experience with all aspects of production. Upon completion, RECYouth-produced work is featured at public screening events, submitted to festivals and for television broadcast.

RECYouth Media Educators will be responsible for developing and facilitating multi-media programming for RECYouth After-School Youth and Teen programs city-wide.

Responsibilities:

·Media Instruction and Support: Provide hands-on, technical training in digital video and audio production while supporting production and satisfactory completion of youth documentary, narrative and other media projects.
·Curriculum & Programming Development: participate in bi-weekly RECYouth planning sessions and contribute to the development of media production and media literacy curriculum.
·Recruitment & Partnerships: Assist RECYouth program directors in recruiting youth for media programs, creating and maintaining partnerships with local organizations.
·Evaluation and Assessment: Evaluate and assess media programming and regularly report program activities and outcomes to the RECYouth Coordinator.
·Equipment and Project Maintenance: supervise maintenance of RECYouth media equipment, organize and maintain all project files for video and audio programming.
·Participate in RECYouth staff meetings, trainings and events as required.

Qualifications:

·Expertise digital video camera, sound and lighting equipment.
·Expertise in Final Cut Pro, After-Effects and other media post-production applications.
·Expertise in AcidPro, Reason and/or other Audio production programs.
·Teaching, classroom management, conflict resolution and group facilitation skills.
·Superior communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
·Commitment to youth-centered community development, project-based learning.
·Willingness to implement RECYouth standards, curriculum and ideology.
·Creativity, flexibility and a sense of humor.
·Proficiency with both PC and Mac platforms.
·Comfortable working with a diverse, youth-oriented, collaborative staff.

The Job:

·Approx. 20 hours/week, $15-$25/hr, depending on experience
·Applicant must commit to 9 months of service, from October 2005 -June 2006, with the possibility of extension.
